European Community Environmental Law Over the last decade EC Environmental Law has become an increasingly complex, dynamic and intellectually challenging area of the law. This course requires students to engage in a critical study of EC environmental law by focusing on the legal developments in the subject. The seminars for the course are a mixture of cross cutting seminars and those focused on particular areas including air quality (climate change), nature conservation, waste regulation, chemicals regulation, genetically modified organisms, and environmental impact assessment. Cross cutting themes include competence, environmental principles, unilateral action by Member States, implementation and public participation. Considerable attention is paid to the case law of the ECJ and CFI but regard is also had to the wider legal framework, and in particular the role of regulatory strategy and the administration of environmental law. A basic knowledge of EC Law is needed to do this course but it is expected that many doing the course may not have that knowledge. For those who have never studied EC law, two catch up sessions will be offered in the first two weeks so as to enable you to do the course. |
