LAW, Justice and Society Seminar
Insecurity and the Loss of Trust: Challenges to Liberty, Democracy, Markets, and the Rule of Law

Monday 12 July 2004

bullet Venue: Oxford

Organised by Centre for Socio-Legal Studies

The idea of the 2004 Law Justice and Society Seminar is to examine the great ideologies and instruments of western societies in the light of contemporary events. What are the factors that have posed such challenges to these great western ideals? How seriously have they been affected? This in turn will lead to a re-examination and re-assessment of the ideals themselves. What social and economic conditions gave birth to them, what purposes have they served, have they outlived their usefulness, are they now being replaced by something else?
