2010 Training Programme for National Judges in EC Competition Law

Monday 22 March 2010 - Friday 26 March 2010

bullet Venue: Lady Margaret Hall

Organised by Centre for Competition Law & Policy

The University of Oxford Centre for Competition Law and Policy (CCLP) and the University of Oxford Institute of European and Comparative Law (IECL), are pleased to announce details of their forthcoming training programme for national judges in EC Competition Law.

The programme, endorsed and subsidised by the European Commission, will take place in Oxford from 22 to 26 March 2010.

The training programme will focus on European competition law and policy and its application at Community and national levels. Special attention will be given to the enforcement of competition laws by national courts and the co-operation between the European Commission and national courts.

The programme will consist of lecture sessions, workshops and case studies. Subjects covered will include: Introduction to EU Law, Introduction to Antitrust Economics, Article 82 EC, Abuse of Dominant Position, Article 81 EC, Agreements and Concerted Practices, Regulation 1/2003, Enforcement by the European Commission and National Competition Agencies, Private Enforcement and the National Court.

Participants will be provided with relevant books and printed materials to accompany all sessions. The programme will be taught in English.

Participation in this programme is free of charge. The cost of the programme, including accommodation in Oxford and meals (breakfasts and dinners) is fully subsidised by the European Commission and by the CCLP and the IECL.

Thirty five per-cent of travel costs, to and from Oxford, will also be subsidised up to a maximum subsidy of one hundred and forty Euros. It is expected that the national jurisdiction will assist participants in funding the remaining cost of their travel.

Eligibility and Applications

The programme is open to national judges, apprentice national judges and legal staff of the national judges offices or of national courts, in the EU Member States, the other EEA contracting parties and the candidate countries.

Those interested in attending this programme are asked to send the registration form to the Oxford University Centre for Competition Law and Policy. The organisers will consider all applications that shall reach them before 10 January 2010.

Please note that places in this programme are limited. In the event that the number of applications will exceed the number of places available, priority may be given to judges from the new Member States which have joined the European Union on 1 May 2004.
