Julie Maxton

Fellow of University College and Registrar of the University of Oxford

Julie Maxton was born in Edinburgh, trained as a barrister then qualified to practise in New Zealand while teaching at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch. Throughout the 20-plus years she spent in New Zealand she combined academic law with practice at the bar, specialising in commercial law. At the end of her five-year term as Dean of Law at the University of Auckland she became the first woman in Oxford's history to hold the post of Registrar of the University of Oxford, the second most important administrative role in the University.
