There is no departmental library in law, the central
law library function being fulfilled by the Bodleian Law Library.
However most colleges (and all that admit law students on taught
courses) have their own working law collections, many of these housed
in separate college law libraries. In general college law libraries
are open only to members of the college in question, but special
arrangements can often be made to use works not available elsewhere.
The
Codrington Library of All Souls College generously admits law students
from all colleges on the recommendation of their tutors. The
Codrington has a sizeable law collection including many periodicals
not held in other college law libraries. It also has a lovely reading
room.
Oxford is rich in library resources and has numerous
libraries in other disciplines (philosophy, politics, economics,
history, sociology) with holdings of interest and importance to
law students and researchers. Many of these libraries, together
with the Bodleian Library, form the Oxford University Library Services
and are available to everyone with a University member’s card and
to other researchers on application.
